Eye Treatments

Normal eyelid function and appearance can change as a result of skin cancer, aging or facial paralysis. The delicate skin around the eye is best addressed by a trained facial plastic or oculoplastic surgeon. Our surgeons perform all aspects of eyelid surgery in order to restore normal appearance and function around the eye. Procedures performed on eyelid skin include both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, including:

  • Eyelid surgery, also called “blepharoplasty,” to remove excess upper or lower eyelid skin or fat

  • Eyelid reconstruction and restoration

  • We also offer LATISSE, the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for growing longer, fuller and darker eyelashes.

Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a procedure in which the doctor removes fat and excess skin and muscle from the eyelids. Medical and cosmetic reasons for choosing to have a blepharoplasty procedure performed include:

  • Bags under your eyes

  • Drooping eyelids

  • Vision problems associated with puffy eyelids

  • As part of a facelift or brow lift

Blepharoplasty is generally performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia. Because of the initial bruising associated with the procedure, you will probably not want to go back to work for a week to 10 days after surgery. You will also experience some initial problems with your vision that should disappear in two to three days.

Once you have healed from the surgery, the results are in many cases permanent. You will look and feel younger.

Reconstruction

The eyelid is composed of skin, thin muscles, and underlying tarsal plates and conjunctiva. The structures of the eyelid can become damaged as a result of trauma, skin cancer or facial paralysis. We perform all aspects of eyelid restoration and reconstruction, and also treat the “bony orbit,” meaning the bones that surround the globe and provide underlying support to the eye.

LATISSE

Get ready for a new innovation in lashes! LATISSE is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for growing longer, fuller and darker eyelashes. LATISSE makes lash growth possible because of its active ingredient: bimatoprost. Lashes can grow longer, thicker and darker because bimatoprost prolongs the growth, or anagen, phase of your lashes.

LATISSE is easy to use, FDA-approved and effective. It’s a once-a-day treatment you apply to the base of your upper eyelashes. While LATISSE is a new treatment in eyelash growth, it was developed through years of research by Allergan, a pharmaceutical leader with over 60 years of expertise in prescription eye care products.
